Habs' Kostitsyn escapes doghouse in 2-1 loss

It hasn’t been a good week for Sergei Kostitsyn, but his fortunes might be changing.

Kostitsyn found himself in the doghouse when he got caught in that infamous early Sunday morning Montreal traffic and missed the 8 a.m. team bus to Quebec City.

He managed to find a friend to drive him to Quebec, but he was several minutes late for the start of a morning skate that was open to the public.

The player’s troubles continued Wednesday when head coach Jacques Martin singled him out as someone who has to change some bad habits.

Martin yelled at the younger Kostitsyn brother for not being in the right place during a drill and, after outlining a drill, he pointedly asked: “Did you get that, Sergei?”

Kostitsyn – who is one of the players on the bubble as the Canadiens move closer to declaring a 23-man roster to open the season – must have gotten something because he picked up his first point of the exhibition season Thursday night when he scored to snap a 0-0 tie.
